Last July, local opera buffs gasped when soprano Deborah Voigt, who had been scheduled to sing the title role in the Lyric Opera production of “Ariadne auf Naxos,” announced she was withdrawing from the show and dropping the Richard Strauss role from her repertory. The Illinois-born diva had made the dual role of the Prima Donna and Ariadne her own well before she sang the part here in 1998, when Lyric first mounted John Cox’s witty and imaginative production.
