Chicago police this morning shot a 23-year-old man in the Lawndale neighborhood who aimed his weapon at officers after they had stopped his car in connection with another shooting, officials said. The incident happened on the 1900 block of South Trumbull Avenue at about 1:30 a.m, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. Ogden District police were assisting units from the Mobile Strike Force that responded to a call of shots fired near the 2100 block of South Homan Avenue. When police responded, they saw a vehicle speeding away from the area, according to a news release issued by police. Police responded by turning on their emergency lights and pulled over the vehicle at the Trumbull Avenue address. As police approached the vehicle, a man inside produced a gun and pointed it in the direction of the officers, police said. The man was shot by police. No officers were injured, police said. Police recovered a hand gun at the scene, police said. Chicago Fire Department paramedics transported a person from the address to Mount Sinai Hospital’s trauma unit, said Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Kevin MacGregor. The condition of the man wasn’t available. Officials from the Independent Review Authority are investigating the shooting, police said. The agency is charged with investigating police involved shootings. — Carlos Sadovi
