Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney cruised to victory in the Nevada caucuses Saturday night, notching a second straight triumph over a field of rivals suddenly struggling to keep pace. The former Massachusetts governor held a double-digit lead over his nearest pursuer as the totals mounted in a state where fellow Mormons accounted for roughly a quarter of all caucus-goers.

A 27-year-old Naperville man has been charged in the overnight murder of a Naperville teacher and the attempted murder of two other men in a Naperville bar.Daniel Olaska, of the 1500 block of Foxhill Road, has been charged with one count to first degree murder in the stabbing of Shaun Wild and two counts of attempted first degree murder in the stabbings of Naperville Central College student…

St. Viator takes first in state cheerleading competition

St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights took first place Saturday in the state cheerleading championships in Bloomington, competing in the mid-sized teams category. A number of other suburban schools snagged lower rankings in the competition, led by Timothy Christian High School, which won second place for small teams, and Barrington High School, which took second for coed team results.

Man charged in murder of Naperville teacher

A 27-year-old Naperville man has been charged in the overnight murder of a Naperville teacher and the attempted murder of two other men. Daniel Olaska has been charged with one count of first degree murder in the stabbing of Shaun Wild and two counts of attempted first degree murder in the stabbings of Naperville Central College Student Willie Hayes and another unidentified man.

Suburban schools bring home cheerleading honors

Contingents of fans from St. Viator and Timothy Christian who showed up at the cheerleading state championships this weekend had something to cheer about themselves. Arlington Heights-based St. Viator team took home first place for medium-sized schools. Elmhurst’s Timothy Christian squad won second place for small schools.

Madelyn Meske was born on Tuesday after more than 4,200 people from all over the world had a say in the choice of her name. Her parents, Dave and Lindsey Meske of Crystal Lake, started an open Facebook poll in September so people could cast their vote for their favorite among four choices: Madelyn, Emily, Addilyne and McKenna.

Stevenson drug investigation could end next week, officials say

An investigation into possible drug sales at Stevenson High School could conclude next week, a spokesman said Friday. While not divulging how many students have faced campus disciplinary measures as a result of the investigation, Stevenson spokesman Jim Conrey said most of the students being disciplined in the matter already have served their unspecified punishments.
