After years of debate, it looks like the extension of Route 53 into Lake County could become a reality.A significant majority — 20 out of 22 members of the Illinois tollway’s Route 53/120 Blue Ribbon Advisory Council — voted Friday in favor of a concept plan for a four-lane parkway on Route 53 up to Route 120 with speeds of 45 mph.

Winfield village board members had Trustee Erik Spande physically removed from Thursday night’s board meeting before taking a unanimous vote to censure him for publicly revealing details of the village’s closed-door sessions on whether to disband its police department. “If I have to stand and fall on a sword for openness and transparency in government, I’ll do that,” he said.

Full I-90 interchange coming to Elmhurst Road

The long-awaited full interchange at Elmhurst Road and I-90 will be built within four years, which will greatly ease truck traffic trying to go west on I-90 or come to Elk Grove Village and Mount Prospect from the west. “For 40 years the full interchange has been drastically needed,” Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson said. “We’re very excited.”
