New Year’s Day typically consists of sleeping in as late as humanly possible, but we’re planning to be up and at ‘em Friday for Philly lo-fi rocker Kurt Vile ‘s intimate in-store performance at Permanent Records . If you haven’t had a chance to check out Kurt Vile’s 2009 release, Childish Prodigy , we highly recommend the album of reverb-soaked outsider Americana. After a stellar performance at the Empty Bottle earlier in the year, sold out shows in his hometown, and a string of sets at the Riv with The Black Keys (including New Year’s Eve), Kurt Vile is quickly becoming a topic of chatter and an artist to keep an eye on. Vile returns to the Empty Bottle on February 13 , but we suggest catching him at his most intimate on New Year’s Day. Kurt Vile plays Friday, January 1, at Permanent Records, 1914 W Chicago, 2 p.m., early arrival suggested, FREE.
