A former Antioch High School teacher admitted to tampering with students grades is facing new charges alleging she provided false contracts to an employer to collection commissions, according to police.

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum will come to Arlington Heights Friday for stops at John Hersey High School and at the Christian Liberty Academy as part of his push for conservative voters, and especially from Evangelical Christians who have been key to his strength in earlier primaries. “I think it sends a strong signal to conservatives that Rick Santorum is a solid conservative,” said Al Salvi of Libertyville.

Service learning helps Wood Dale students see ‘big picture’

A new way of teaching that initially started at universities and caught on with high schools is now trickling down to elementary schools, too. Service learning, which combines formal for-credit instruction with related community service, is coming to all classes at Wood Dale Junior High School. They are the rare elementary district to do this schoolwide.

Hundreds call in sick at Algonquin school

Westfield Community School in Algonquin has a suspected outbreak of the norovirus raging through the school. When absenteeism spiked from 17 students absent on Wednesday morning in the elementary school to 109 Thursday, Principal Bill Doran knew the school had an issue on its hands. More than twice that number called in sick Friday.

Just like Shaun White and snowboarding, Lake Villa’s Felicia Stancil wants nothing more than to become the face of her extreme sport. “When people think of BMX, I want to be the person they think of,” she said. The Grayslake North High School junior is certainly on track, with 10 world titles under her belt and her sights set on the 2016 Olympics.
