New shows for Fox, Cartoon Network could be next step for star stand-up Back in the summer, when we last left Hannibal Buress, he had sold out 16 shows at Zanies Comedy Club in Old Town. A son of the West Side, a veteran of Chicago's stand-up circuit, he had also just left his job as a staff writer on NBC's "30 Rock," the kind of job most young comedians would cling to until his or her fingernails were split and bloodied. Make no mistake: He wasn't much of a household name; in fact, though Buress has lived in New York since 2008, The New York Times has only recently seemed to notice him. Buress, though, arguably the most buzzed-about young comic today, had bet on his ability to write a TV show for himself, and by October, he was working on two shows. First up, a live series for the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim; he'll act on it and write some of it. The other show, however — that'll be a showcase.
